The Carr Accident
It appears that our household has bad karma. One week to the day after Socks broke his paw, Matt had a “carr” accident himself. Matt was playing Saturday morning basketball and he twisted his ankle pretty hard. He knew that it was a bad enough injury to call it a day. He arrived home limping, but stated that it wasn’t too bad of a sprain. On Saturday night, his foot was swollen and slightly black and blue. Sunday morning came around, Matt put on his ankle brace (this foot gets sprained a lot) we went about our day. During the afternoon, Matt took off his brace to see how his ankle was looking and we saw this:

I, only being a measly pharmacist and not having any acute training in injuries, started freaking out. I told him that it could be a hairline fracture and that I’ve never seen a sprain look like that before. The resident PA for the Carr household (aka: Brittany) was contacted. We all agreed that it might not hurt to have his foot looked at.
As of this evening, the bruising has actually faded a little, leading us to hope that it is just a bad sprain. I still think that the side of caution should be followed. I guess I am ultra sensitive about ankle injuries. After all, I just had a 3 inch needle prodded around in my ankle joint to inject cortisone. I know the ramifications of arthritis and inflamed joints in the ankle and it isn’t a fun picture. I wouldn’t wish it upon anyone. The office will be contacted tomorrow to make sure that Matt didn’t pull a Socks’ stunt. If it’s fractured, he’ll go for a matching blue cast. ![]()
