Skiing
Whitetail opened its slopes to the public today! Matt and I were there relatively early in the day! This is the first time that I’ve really tried to do anything unusually stressful on my foot since I shattered the thing in May of 2004. It was interesting… I did awesome on the bunny slopes. I had a good time and felt pretty good about how my foot was holding up. It did go completely numb after an hour of skiing, but I attribute that to the fact that my boots were a little too snug. After all the runs down the bunny slope, Matt thought I should try the intermediate slope. Hmmmm, the difference between the two slopes is ridiculous! I was scared that I would get going too fast and not really be able to stop. Matt held my hand going down the hill which worked out great on the first few runs on the bunny slope. Yeah…Not so well on this slope. He caused us to wreck like three times. I kept on speeding up and scaring myself. It was quite the horrible experience. I think a lot of my problems were that I couldn’t slow down to comfortable speeds and that this was the last run of the day. The time that I needed the most strength, I had little. My leg and ankle were mad at me and I just didn’t have the full strength to really drill the side of my skis in the snow to stop. I plan on heading back to the slopes soon. I will attempt to get the whole stopping thing down before I take any more daring adventures down the bigger slopes.
