Just what can a Pharmacist do, Part II
Option 2: Hospital Pharmacists
Like many health care professionals, pharmacists regularly attend ward rounds and are more involved in selecting treatments for patients than ever before. Preparing of sterile medicines for patient use is another aspect of hospital pharmacy. More fun to be found in the hospital setting includes; managing the care of patients with all types of conditions, working in the dispensary, providing information on medicines and managing the purchase of medicines for the whole hospital. Another aspect of hospital pharmacy includes being involved with the general management of the hospital itself.
Some pharmacists specialize as consultants (aka: clinical specialists) in many areas such as hematology (blood), nephrology (kidneys), respiratory medicine, cardiology (heart), urology (urinary), diabetes, gastroenterology (stomach and intestines), infectious diseases, pediatrics (children) and geriatrics (care of the elderly).
That is hospital pharmacy in a nutshell.
Addendum: Hospital Pharmacists R-O-C-K! Especially Dr. Williams who is the best hospital pharmacist ever.
