I like these kind of weeks
This week was a wonderful one from start to finish. I started my rotation at the VA center in Martinsburg. I was very excited to start here because I heard such wonderful things about the site. The wonderful things were all very true. I love my preceptor (young, hip, smart, exc…) and for the record, she does not know this site exists. I love the place. The veterans are a neat class of people and the whole week has been very eye-opening. I told Matt that they may have a hard time getting me to leave this place. The VA has advanced the field of pharmacy within its walls more than other hospitals. There have been some sad sights already and if nothing else, this rotation is solidifying my opinion that war is not always the best option at all.
I had the 4th of July off which was lovely. Matt and I were a tad bored in the morning and after calling the right person, we turned the day into a blast. Jeremy came over and dragged our lazy butts to one of the best places ever. We went to Cacapon, WV and played in the river. This is an old hang-out spot of Matt and his friends and it was my first time there. It is essentially a dammed up section of the river. The dam is currently half there and half missing. I am sure it is highly unsafe, but that didn’t stop us from scaling down a mountain to get to it and then jumping right in. Playing in the waterfalls on the broken section of a dam is quite fun. Ahhhhh, poor city kids miss out so much in life.
On a sad note, Matt managed to lose his wedding band while playing in the river. I was smart enough to remove my rock, but I have yet to see Matt ever take his ring off. I must admit, the ring wasn’t anything fancy or expensive, but it held a pretty strong sentimental value. The titanium band was engraved inside with the words, “I’ll be here – June 9th 2006.” Out of the wedding vows that Matt and I wrote for each other, that is the one line that he like the absolute best and he wanted it on his ring. I feel like having that engraved in the band made it more special than any diamond studded band could be. I doubt we will have Eric luck and have a fisher-man fish out the ring. Even if they did, how would they know that ring belonged to us? I guess this just means that the Cacapon will always have a special piece of my heart.
As if the week wasn’t grand enough, we went to PA this weekend to help celebrate Miss Ally’s 2nd birthday. It seems like she was just born yesterday and Matt and I are in awe of how quickly she grew up. We had the complete “Dora the Explorer” birthday party with a special Cindy’s Sweets cake. The weekend was so nice and relaxing.
Now, its back to the grind on Monday. Although, since I really like where I am going, perhaps it isn’t such a grind, huh?
