The Carr Show

My car’s bumper attracts other cars to it

So, my poor little Elantra was rear-ended, again.  This is time number 4 in the last 12 months.  It is not my fault, I swear.  2 out of the 4, I wasn’t even driving.  This time, Matt happened to be driving.  So, we are headed to Michaels to do a quick return of wedding crap and we are sitting at a stop light.  The light turned green and Matt was waiting for the people in front of him to start moving.  We heard a horn blaring and then we got hit.  Then, the horn sounded again and we were hit again.  We were hit pretty hard and I was convinced my trunk was smashed in. Matt jumped out of the car and I turned around to look at the driver.  He was an older latino man who honestly looked like he was having a heart attack.  In fact, he looked so ill that I had 911 punched in my phone.  The man refused to get out of his car at first, but he did after a few seconds.  He went over and looked at my car, patted Matt on the shoulder (SAID NOTHING, but a few grunts according to Matt), and got back in his car.  Matt said, "No, no, you can’t leave." As this was happening, I hit send on that 911 call as I could see that the man was in fact going to leave.  And, my luck stands true to me, he drove away.  We got his plate number and started after him.  The trooper they had transferred me to, yelled at me not to follow the man and to park and they would meet us.  20 minutes later, just in time for both Matt and I to realize we had really sore necks, a MD police officer showed up.  He ran the plates and had us escort him to the three possible addresses that this car had been registered under. An hour late and after touring a few slum apartments of Hagers-hell, we had no guy and no clue.  The officer gave me a hit and run case number.  The good news is that if this car is pulled over or when it needs new plates, there will be a warrant on it.  The bad news is my car has some (a lot less than I expected) damage and my neck and head hurt.  I think my car must have a fine bumper as it seems to attract a lot of attention from other cars.  My luck is bad.

Sorry about your bad luck.  Unfortunately, even if they catch the guy, you probably won’t see a dime from him.  :-/
