The Carr Show

Kinklings

Matt decided not to do the movie job.  The director was on a small scaled budget and the amount he offered Matt just didn’t make it worth his time to stay up all night in the cold making snow.  He passed and he is going to come home from work soon and cuddle with me.  <gag, gag>

I had to work today.  I had a fun crew tonight, all my favorites.  Well, really, I like most of the people that I work with and that always makes a job better.  I hated CVS when I first started working there. I mean, I hated it. It took all I had not to quit the job.  I felt overworked, under-appreciated, underpaid, and to top it off my foot would ache and ache and ache while I was there.  I am so glad that I stuck that job out because I honestly really like it now.  Sure it sucks being at a job that you never get to sit down for.  And, I was so used to my cozy government job.  I think if I went back to a slow paced job now, I would be bored out of my mind.  A good coffee break from time to time would be nice though…

Tomorrow morning, Matt and I are headed to my grandmother’s house.  I am introducing Matt to a family tradition – KINKLINGS!!!!!  Also known as Fastnachts.  Obviously, this is a German thing which is very popular in the Frederick county region of Maryland. They are home-made doughnuts that are delicious.  You deep fry them after the appropriate raising and shaping.  Then you put them in a brown lunch bag filled with powdered sugar.  Yummy, feel those thighs getting big?  Although, I’ve been told that many people who didn’t grow up loving them think that they taste funny.  More for me. The story goes that they were invented as a way to clear out your house before lent and to eat rich before the lent fasting began.  They contain mashed potatoes (some recipes do)!!!!  Every year since I can remember, we met as a family (the WHOLE family) around the end of February and made kinklings at Memaw’s house.  And while this year will be a little different and sad without Poppee, I am still very excited to introduce Matt to this family tradition.  The mess all that powdered sugar makes when those brown bags start shaking…There is nothing in the World like it.
